Description
Schefflera delavayi SEH#18007 One of the hardiest of the scheffleras that have come into cultivation recently (along with fengii and taiwaniana). Native to the temperate forests of south-central and eastern China, this species has proven to be remarkably hardy, having survived undamaged for many years now in numerous gardens in the Pacific NW. These are grown from seed collected in the wild from the far northern and eastern end of its range so should be among the hardiest forms available. The very large leaflets are (somewhat) reminiscent of a red oak but on a much more massive scale. Absolutely massive umbels of small flowers in the autumn followed by purple-black berries. A rare chance for a plant of known wild origin. (0) RSBG
