Description

Rhododendron species nova GR#0818 This big-leaf species was collected in an area of the eastern Himalaya that had never been explored by the early plant hunters. This may well be a new species, it certainly does not match anything else that I have seen. This is a completely different taxon from 171sd2008 which we have had in the catalog for the past year or so. These are closer to sinogrande but definitely different. I have planted a few of these out in the garden and the leaves are quite large and impressive. This is a new collection from a different location in the eastern Himalaya. (+10?\R1\5) RSBG#171sd2008

*** NOTE When the term “species nova” is used this simply means that this taxon is a species unknown to science that has not been officially named by a botanist or similar authority. It is Latin for new species. You will need to compare the collection # or the accession # to determine if you have already purchased any particular species nova from us. We have distributed many over the past few years. They are not all the same species nova! For example species nova SEH#171 is a dwarf Maddenia while species nova GR#0819 is a member of subsection Grandia (a big-leaf species).
