Description
Rhododendron maoerense A beautiful species which is quite new to cultivation. This is a large-growing Fortunea and is similar to the species fortunei but with much larger and longer, very shiny leaves. The flowers are somewhat similar as well but more purple-pink (darker than those of R. fortunei) and about a month earlier in the season. These are grown from hand-pollinated seed produced from plants here in the RSBG grown from wild seed. Native to the same mountain in southern China as R. yuefengense so I am assuming it will be of similar hardiness. (5R16) RSBG
