Rhododendron sinogrande x rex ssp. fictolacteum JN#12151 These are grown from seed collected in the wild from a naturally occurring hybrid found where the ranges of these two big-leaf species overlap. The seedlings we have grown from this collection look much closer to sinogrande and so may turn out to be a much hardier version of the normally somewhat tender sinogrande with the addition of some genetic material from the substantially hardier rex ssp. fictolacteum - in other words, a great deal of the time and work has already been taken care of for those of you hybridizing for hardier big-leafs!
