Description

Rhododendron ovatum SEH#12002 This is a compact growing species with small and shiny, rounded leaves and masses of small but showy, flat flowers (late spring) ranging in color from white to pale pink or deep rose, often with purple spots. Bright reddish-purple new growth on this incredibly widespread and variable species. Much hardier than would be expected based upon its native range in southern China. We have a huge old specimen in the garden that blooms reliably every May. I was thrilled to see masses of this species in gorgeous full bloom in the province of Guangxi, China in early April of 2009 – a real highlight of the trip. These are grown from seed collected in the wild. (+5\R1\2) RSBG#298sd2012
