Botanical Garden and Nursery Intern

Title:                        Botanical Garden and Nursery Intern
Reports to:            Executive Director
Status:                     Full-time for up to 6 months with possible opportunity for extension
Schedule:               Must be willing to work at least one weekend day per week. Full schedule is negotiable.

Job Description:

The Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden (RSBG) Internship Program is designed to provide practical, hands-on experience in the following areas: horticulture, garden maintenance and renovation, propagation, nursery management, and retail nursery experience.

Botanical Garden Maintenance Responsibilities: Learn how to care for a world-class botanical garden, including pruning and planting techniques, landscape design, weed control, renovation, irrigation, and plant identification.

Nursery Maintenance: Gain valuable experience in the operation and maintenance of a highly specialized nursery with emphasis on propagation techniques. Learn propagation methods including grafting, cuttings, seed sowing, and hand pollination as well as greenhouse operation, transplanting, inventory control, data entry, and plant identification.  Detail-oriented and mechanical ability or aptitude helpful.

Hourly Rate: $15.74/hour
