The festival features fall color tours, speakers, demonstrations and excellent deals on outstanding species rhododendrons, companion plants and ferns. NEW this year – Dan Hinkley’s Windcliff Selections will be available at the Opening Day Plant Sale!

With every $50 purchase of RSBG plants, customers will be rewarded with one free “Garden Pass” admission.

 In addition to the daily plant sale, enjoy the special focus days throughout the Festival:

Saturday, Oct. 18thOpening Day Plant  Sale featuring Dan Hinkley’s Windcliff Selections (this day only), enjoy special pricing on a nice selection of rhododendrons, ferns and companion plants. Phytosanitary inspector on-site for our international customers.

10 am – 4pm Tacoma Orchid Society Show and Sale
10:15 am Introduction to Flower Photography class:

  • 10:15 am to 12:15 pm

1 pm: Dennis Bottemiller, the RSBG Nursery Manager, will be the special speaker: “Wild Rhododendrons for the Pacific Northwest Garden.”
2 pm RSBG Fall Color Tour
1-3 pm: Book Signing with Donald Olson, author of The Pacific Northwest Garden Tour.

Sunday, Oct. 19th Wag Fest, the ONLY day dogs are welcomed into the Garden. Dog owners and their well-behaved dogs are invited to celebrate the fall season and enjoy the Garden together. Enjoy displays and activities.

1 pm Wag Fest Celebration: Prizes for best pet costume, best dog trick and more! Watch the F.I.D.O. Drill Team perform.  The Paws-Abilities’ “First In Dog Obedience” (F.I.D.O.) Drill Team was formed by local dog owners to demonstrate the joy in, and fun of, owning a well-trained, obedient dog. The team is made up of Mixed Breeds, Purebreds and Shelter Rescues ranging in age from nine months to twelve years old, all working together in close order drill to demonstrate the benefits of training for ALL dogs.

2 pm Bring your dog for the 1K Howl-o-ween Dog Walk. Halloween costumes are optional.
10 am – 4pm Tacoma Orchid Society Show and Sale

Friday, Oct. 24th – Bonsai Day, learn more about the art of bonsai.

1 pm Bonsai demonstration by Dave DeGroot: “Bonsai Landscape.” Dave will use several small Cryptomeria to create a scene of a grove of trees surrounding a rock formation with pool.

Saturday, Oct. 25th – Fern DayDiscover and learn more about the fascinating world of ferns growing in the RSBG’s woodland gardens and the Hardy Fern Foundation’s Victorian Stumpery. John van den Meerendonk, of Botanica, Inc., will speak at 1 pm on “Gardening with Ferns.”  Tour the Garden at 2 pm for an insider’s look at well-sited ferns.
