 ion\, explore the unique flora of the South Island of New Zealand\, wh
 ere the RSBG’s Assistant Horticulturist Kyra Matin studied local flora
  and ecology. As part of the University of Washington's Master of Envi
 ronmental Horticulture program\, Matin spent four months working at Du
 nedin Botanic Garden and collecting wild\, native seed.  The collected
  seeds were brought back to Washington and added to the collection of 
 the Pacific Connections Garden\, which features plants from five Pacif
 ic Rim regions with similar climates – China\, Australia\, Chile\, New
  Zealand\, and Cascadia. The talk includes photos of the plant-rich hi
 nterlands and even a few photos of the celebrated Rhododendron Dell at
  the Dunedin Botanic Garden.\nCost:\n     Early Bird Special (through 
 March 8) - $15 for non-Members and $5 for Members\n     Cost  (startin
 g March 9)  -  $20 for non-Members and $10 for Members\n\nYour registr
 ation fee directly supports the conservation of the Rhododendron genus
 .\nAbout Kyra Matin - Kyra is a recent addition\, having joined the Rh
 ody Garden staff in November of 2020. She works in the nursery on prop
 agation and production\, as well as in the garden helping to maintain 
 our world class collection of species Rhododendrons and companion plan
 ts. Prior to joining the Rhody Garden team\, Kyra worked as the Progra
 m Manager for the Hardy Fern Foundation. Other horticultural achieveme
 nts include managing the Chilean collection in the Pacific Connections
  Garden at the University of Washington Botanic Gardens\, as well as w
 orking at Cistus Nursery in Oregon. She obtained a Master of Environme
 ntal Horticulture from the University of Washington and has an undergr
 aduate degree in Biology from Lewis & Clark College. She has a strong 
 interest in plant conservation\, floristics and ecogeographic gardens\
 , and plant evolution. She has participated in multiple seed collectin
 g excursions\, including a solo trip to New Zealand\, and is inspired 
 by the plant hunting spirit that lives on at the Rhododendron Species 
 Botanical Garden.\nHow to Join the Meeting:\n\n\n 	When you register f
 or the event\, you will receive a basic confirmation email.\n 	Closer
