The RSBG Nursery is open year-round with a fantastic assortment of rhododendrons and companion plants available to purchase during all garden open hours. Garden admission is not charged for those who are coming only to shop.
Among the highlights this year are the two brand-new hybrids that we are introducing into North America for the first time. Rhododendron ‘Ever Red’ has fantastic black-red evergreen foliage with deep red flowers. ‘Wine & Roses’ has stunning foliage with a deep purple-reddish underside and pink funnel-shaped flowers in spring. Both are compact and slow-growing and are perfect for the smaller garden or container culture. RSBG is the sole distributor in the US at the time.
We also are featuring a fine selection of our most popular species including Rhododendron williamsianum with pink bells in April, R. augustinii with deep blue-purple flowers in late April, and R. wardii with pale yellow flowers in April.
We have a large assortment of deciduous azaleas in stock as well. Among these are ‘Northern Highlights’ whose soft yellow flowers feature a mesmerizing fragrance, ‘Fireball’ with fiery orange red flowers, ‘Washington State Centennial’ with deeply frilled light orange-yellow flowers in late spring.
We have the fantastic woodland wildflower, Paeonia mairei, which is a RSBG introduction into cultivation from the mountains of China. This rare peony thrives in partial shade, unlike the other garden peonies that require full sun. You will also find a fine selection of epimediums in our nursery. They make a great groundcover in your shade garden.
Some of the native plants for sale include Ribes sanguineum (Flowering Currant), Coptis laciniata (Goldthread), and Blechnum spicant (Deer Fern). We also feature a fine selection of hostas, trilliums, and ferns and have a large assortment of plants that are tolerant of dry, shady conditions such as you find under our native cedars and maples.
We stock our nursery on a weekly basis in the spring, so you will want to visit us several times to take advantage of our ever-changing inventory.
We have the fantastic woodland wildflower, Ypsilandra thibetica , which is a RSBG introduction into cultivation from the mountains of China. This evergreen lily relative features glossy, smooth green leaves in a basal rosette with spikes of highly fragrant white flowers in February and March. Each flower is set off with bright blue anthers – a striking combination. This rare perennial is easily grown in the shaded garden with hostas, trilliums, and ferns. Large plants in full blossom are now available for purchase in our RSBG Nursery.
